Shani Rhys James


Shani Rhys James is a Welsh painter, known for her melancholic self-portraits, still lifes and domestic scenes. She is considered to be one of the most significant living artists of her generation.

Rhys James won the last Jerwood Painting Prize in 2003.

Taken at Shani Rhys James studio on 30 November 2018.

This portrait was later used by Charleston for Shani Rhys James exhibition: tea on the sofa, blood on the carpet, held at Charleston in East Sussex from 1 February-19 April 2020. The image also featured in a promotional video for the exhibition.
